HENDERSONVILLE & GALLATIN, TENNESSEE  Happy Labor Day, Sumner County!

Labor Day is more than a three-day weekend. It is a day set aside to recognize the millions of hardworking Americans who have helped build our communities, businesses and country. Here in Sumner County, that includes our teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, construction crews, restaurant employees, small business owners, retail workers, office staff, factory workers and everyone else who gets up each day and gets the job done.

But today, we hope you get a chance to do a little less working and a little more celebrating!

Stay Close to Home and Enjoy Sumner County

You don’t have to travel far to have a great Labor Day. Hendersonville and Gallatin offer plenty of ways to turn the holiday into a fun family day.

Pack a Picnic and Head to the Lake

One of the best things about living in Hendersonville is having Old Hickory Lake practically in our backyard.

Sanders Ferry Parks is a great place to pack a cooler, bring some lawn chairs and spend a few hours outside. Families can enjoy the playgrounds and picnic areas, while others may want to walk, fish, kayak or simply find a relaxing spot near the water.

Sometimes the perfect Labor Day doesn’t need an itinerary. A sandwich, a cold drink, a lawn chair and a view of Old Hickory Lake can be pretty hard to beat.

Let the Kids Burn Off Some Energy

If the kids have been asking, “What are we doing today?” Hendersonville has several easy answers.

Mary’s Magical Place at Veterans Park offers a large inclusive playground where kids can run, climb and play.

Another option is Memorial Park, where families can enjoy the playground and spend some time outside together.

For walking, jogging, sports or just getting outdoors, Drakes Creek Park gives families plenty of room to enjoy the day.

Interestingly, Hendersonville’s official city calendar doesn’t list a major city-sponsored event for Labor Day itself, making today a good opportunity to create your own family celebration. (Hendersonville TN)

Gallatin Has Plenty to Do Too

Our neighbors in Gallatin have some great Labor Day options.

Gallatin Miracle Park is an excellent choice for families with children. The inclusive recreation area offers plenty of opportunities for kids of different abilities to play together.

If you want more room to explore, Triple Creek Park offers walking opportunities, playground areas, a dog park, disc golf and plenty of open space.

For something a little quieter, head toward Bledsoe Creek State Park. It’s a beautiful area around Old Hickory Lake where you can enjoy trails, wildlife and a more relaxed side of Sumner County.

And here’s one especially appropriate Labor Day idea: Gallatin’s official calendar says that while the Civic Center is closed for the holiday today, the Tommy Garrott Aquatics Facility is open for Labor Day. (Gallatin, TN)

That could make today a perfect opportunity for one last summer splash before we start saying goodbye to pool season.

Fire Up the Grill!

Of course, Labor Day wouldn’t feel quite right without something cooking outside.

Burgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, barbecue, corn on the cob and watermelon all seem to taste a little better when they’re eaten outside on Labor Day.

Invite over some neighbors. Put on some music. Set up cornhole in the backyard. Let the kids run through the sprinkler. Break out the football. Make some homemade ice cream.

It doesn’t have to be fancy.
Sometimes the best holiday memories happen right in your own backyard.

Make It a Local Restaurant Day
Don’t feel like cooking?
Even better!

Labor Day is a great excuse to visit one of our locally owned restaurants in Hendersonville or Gallatin. Grab some pizza, barbecue, burgers, Mexican food, Indian cuisine, wings or your family’s favorite meal.

Just remember that holiday hours can vary, so check with the restaurant before heading out.

Supporting a locally owned restaurant or business is also a fitting way to celebrate Labor Day because behind every local storefront are people working hard to make Sumner County a better place to live.

Take the Boat Out, Drop a Fishing Line or Just Watch the Water

If you’re fortunate enough to have access to a boat, today might be calling your name.

Old Hickory Lake gives Hendersonville and Gallatin something many communities would love to have. Whether you’re boating, kayaking, fishing or simply sitting near the shoreline, Labor Day is a great opportunity to enjoy it.

Lock 4 Park – The Point in Gallatin is another option for people who want to spend some time fishing, walking or relaxing near the water.

And If You Want a Little More Action…

For anyone willing to make the short drive into Nashville, the Labor Day weekend has included music, sports, fireworks and other activities around Music City. (Axios)

But you certainly don’t have to leave Sumner County to have a good Labor Day.

We have parks.

We have the lake.

We have great restaurants.

We have backyards waiting for a grill.

And most importantly, we have family, friends and neighbors to enjoy it all with.

Happy Labor Day From HendersonvilleOnline!

However you choose to spend today, we hope you make it a good one.

Sleep a little later. Eat something you probably shouldn’t. Get outside. Take the kids somewhere fun. Call some friends. Fire up the grill. Get near the water. Support a local business.

And maybe, just for today, don’t worry too much about what needs to be done tomorrow.

From all of us at HendersonvilleOnline, we wish everyone in Hendersonville, Gallatin and throughout Sumner County a safe, fun and very Happy Labor Day!

Enjoy the day, Sumner County. You’ve earned it!
