In a world that can sometimes feel rushed and disconnected, there are moments that remind us what truly matters. One of those moments is happening right here in our own community through a powerful event called Feed The City, organized by Tango Charities.
Hosted at Safari’s Brick Oven & Grille in Hendersonville, Tennessee, this monthly volunteer event brings people together with one simple mission: to help those in need and spread kindness through action.
A Community Coming Together
Feed The City is more than just a volunteer event. It is a reminder that when people come together with a shared purpose, real change can happen.
In just two hours, volunteers gather around tables to prepare meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity. It is a hands-on experience where everyone plays a role, whether it is making sandwiches, packing lunch bags, or simply sharing a smile with someone next to them.
There is something special about standing side by side with neighbors, friends, and even strangers, all working toward the same goal. It creates a sense of unity that goes beyond the event itself.
What to Expect at the Event
From the moment you arrive, you can feel the energy of the room. Volunteers begin checking in between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning, and by 9:00, the work begins.
Tables fill up quickly with people of all ages. Families bring their children, friends come in groups, and individuals show up ready to help. Together, they prepare meals that will soon be placed into the hands of someone who truly needs it.
The process is simple:
- Making sandwiches
- Packing lunch sacks
- Organizing supplies
But the impact is powerful.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear orange as a symbol of support, but what truly stands out is the kindness and compassion shared throughout the room.
Everyone Can Be a Part of It
One of the most beautiful parts of Feed The City is that it is open to everyone. There is no age limit, and people from all walks of life are welcome to join.
Adults are asked to register individually, and children are encouraged to participate alongside a supervising adult. It becomes a great opportunity for families to teach the value of giving back while making lasting memories together.
Each participant is asked to bring enough supplies to help create 25 to 30 meals. This includes items like bread, deli meat, cheese, fruit, chips, and sandwich bags. By asking everyone to contribute, the event is able to produce a large number of meals in a short amount of time.
Making a Difference, Even If You Cannot Attend
Not everyone can make it in person, but that does not mean you cannot help.
Community members can still support the mission by preparing lunch bags ahead of time and dropping them off. These bags can include simple items like water, fruit, a snack, and even a handwritten note.
That small note can mean more than you realize. For someone going through a difficult time, a kind message can bring hope and remind them that they are not alone.
More Than Just a Meal
What makes Feed The City so meaningful is that it goes beyond food. Yes, the meals are important, but it is the love behind them that truly makes the difference.
Every sandwich made, every bag packed, and every note written carries a message:
“You matter. Someone cares.”
In a time where many people are struggling, that message can change a person’s day, or even their outlook on life.
